Pantry Snap is designed as a local-first app. The app helps users track food items and expiration dates using on-device barcode scanning, a bundled storage guide, optional product photos, on-device OCR, and local reminders. No network connection is required for everyday use, and there is no account.

Information Pantry Snap stores

Pantry Snap stores the following information locally on the user’s device:

• product names and quantities
• food categories and storage locations (pantry, fridge, freezer, or custom)
• expiration dates and reminder settings
• optional, compressed product and expiration photos
• a shopping list
• whether an item was used or tossed, and an optional value, for savings insights

Information Pantry Snap does not collect

• no account information
• no analytics or tracking data
• no advertising identifiers
• no contact lists
• no location data
• no payment information
• no user-generated pantry data uploaded to a Pantry Snap server

Camera and photo access

Pantry Snap uses camera access so the user can scan a product barcode or capture product and expiration photos. The app may also use photo library access when the camera is unavailable. Barcode scanning and OCR run entirely on the device; nothing is uploaded.

Barcode lookup and storage guide

Barcode scanning is matched against a small, curated lookup table that ships inside the app. The shelf-life guide is the USDA FSIS FoodKeeper dataset, also bundled in the app. Pantry Snap does not contact Open Food Facts or any other online product database, so scanning and shelf-life estimates work fully offline.

OCR and reminders

Pantry Snap performs OCR on-device to suggest product names and expiration dates. Local notifications are scheduled on the device to remind the user before an item expires.

Widgets, Shortcuts, and sharing

The "Expiring Soon" widgets read a small snapshot stored in the app's private App Group container on the device. Siri Shortcuts and the shopping-list and CSV "share" actions use standard iOS features; Pantry Snap does not transmit data on its own.

Data sharing

Pantry Snap does not sell, rent, or share user pantry data with third parties. There is no analytics, no advertising, no in-app purchases, and no cloud sync.
